Occupational Therapy

occupational therapy new york laura statonAs people age or movement limitations occur, the home environment can become more challenging to navigate safely. Often, as people adapt limitations to their specific home topography, they don’t realize how their safety has become compromised or previously simple activities, such as showering or dressing, have become altered.

An Occupational Therapy home based assessment will evaluate the individual’s needs, goals and ability to perform Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) safely and recommend necessary adaptive (AE) or medical equipment (DME). The goal will be to have the individual perform all activities of daily living an environment that supports their ongoing success.

The session will include an initial evaluation of the patient’s goals, transfer skills, current ADL and biomechanical status. The patients risk of falls will be evaluated and recommendations for Durable Medical Equipment or Adaptive Equipment will be made as needed (75 minutes).

A second session is strongly recommended to train the patient to use any purchased equipment, enhance transfer skills and provide a therapeutic exercise program (60-75 minutes).
