All my friends hate New Years Eve. In fact, one refused to come out and another got a migraine. We were similarly low key. I attribute it to aging because it comes with an automatic expectation of self -reflection and stocktaking; the more we live, the greater our span of history to reflect on.  Sometimes we are prepared for the journey – but New Years Eve asks us to take it that very night. And not only take it, but act on it, make some decisions and spit out some new ones. Right now!
So, in the calm breath-induced warmth of my yoga practice that afternoon, I decided that my new New Years resolution was just to make one. One very specific, very clear resolution and let all the ancillary hopes, ambitions and desires settle as they may. Don’t ask too much of yourself, just try to ask the right question.
